Alcohol & Other Drug Safety

Alcohol & Other Drug Awareness for Managers and Supervisors
Iowa’s drug testing law (Iowa Code Section 730.5, paragraph 9.h. and Administrative Code Section 640) enhances worker safety by creating drug & substance free workplaces. One tool available to private sector employers is drug testing (inclusive of alcohol testing). An employer who chooses to use this tool must attend a minimum of two hours of initial training, and a minimum of one hour annually for update or refresher training. This training meets the initial two-hour training requirement and includes information concerning the recognition of evidence of employee alcohol and/or other drug abuse, the documentation and corroboration of alcohol and/or other drug abuse, and the referral of employees who abuse alcohol and/or other drugs to the employee assistance program or to the resource file maintained by the employer pursuant to paragraph “c”, subparagraph (2) of the Iowa Code. This course satisfies the requirements for supervisor training.

This is an OSHA-required course for persons working on scaffolding who are responsible for the safety of a work crew. This training is often given to all members of the crew as the statute requires a competent person be on-site for all work. This course is an OSHA requirement, and it involves educating employees about the dangers of arc flash from electrical devices. Employees are required to understand the potential danger from arc flash, how arc flash is categorized, and what can be done to limit exposure.

New Crane & Hoist Safety
This course covers the safe work procedures required when working with cranes and hoists. Training covers all topics required to meet the Qualified Rigger training as specified by OSHA. Topics covered include: types of hardware used in lifting, proper rigging techniques for lifting, how to inspect rigging and other lifting equipment, the dynamics of lifting, and pre-lift safety. Participants will receive a Qualified Rigger certification and a certification of attendance.

Safety Seminar - Active Shooter
The Active Killer Training program is designed to give a person or group of people, who may find themselves in a violent, life-threatening situation some mental and physical tools that could play a vital role their survival. The program is designed so that anybody can employ the strategies. Young, old, male, female, strong or not, it does not matter. You do not have to be Police or Military-trained in order to survive a violent encounter. You do need to have a frame of reference from which to draw when making life-saving decisions under extreme pressure, much like preparing for a fire or a tornado.
